On June 15, 2007, CNNIC held the first session of NIC WORLD forum with the subject of "Harmonious World, Harmonious Internet". The leaders of NIC from seven countries, i.e. China, Germany, Britain, USA, South Korea, Japan and Singapore were present in the summit forum in Beijing. They discussed how to respond to the challenges and opportunities in the information society for NICs and shared their Internet construction and management experience. Chen Jiachun, deputy director general of Telecommunications Bureau of Ministry of Information Industry and ICANN CEO Paul Twomey attended the meeting and made speeches. CNNIC director Mao Wei delivered a speech with the topic of "Establishment of Harmonious Informatization Society---Mission and Duties of NICs"
The domain name systems under the management of NICs compose the core infrastructure of the Internet while the Internet composes the core infrastructure of the information society. NICs construct a platform for building an information society in harmonious development. The platform quality decides the quality of the information society to build largely. With the progressive development of the Internet, the question of how to keep the country domain names and their domain name systems operating stably and safely and how to keep the technological innovation at the cutting edge, are the core task for guaranteeing the steady operation of the Internet and they are also the mission and responsibility of NIC.
