On March 3 2007, Dr. Mao Wei, the Director General of China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), was elected to be a member of the Executive Council of Asia-Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC). The election was held during the 23rd Annual Member Meeting in Indonesia on March 2, 2007. There were a total of eleven candidates running for the four seats in this meeting.
The EC of APNIC consists of 7 councilors. Their duty is to oversee the operation of APNIC for the members, which includes establishing the executive secretariat, supervising operation budget setup, directing APNIC Annual Member meeting arrangement,auditing research progress in each SIG, constructing APNIC policy framework and monitoring the compliance. Councilors as industrial experts are well received and respected by the Asian Pacific Internet community.
Dr. Mao Wei elected as the APNIC EC, demonstrated the increasing world recognition on the development of CNNIC, and CNNIC’s willingness of contribute more values to the community.
Before elected to EC, Dr. Mao Wei held several positions in the international Internet organization, include Number Council (NC) of Number Resource Organization(NRO) and Address Committee (AC) of ICANN ASO.
