For improving the performance of domestic network infrastructures, CNNIC initialized a full-scale evaluation and redeployment of domestic top level domain name server under the direction of Ministry of Information Industry (MII). On December 21, 2004, "China ccTLD name server Shanghai Node Contract-Signing Ceremony" was held in Shanghai. This is the first step of China's ccTLD name server system redeployment and it is also a strategic adjustment of China's domain name resolution service system.
The deployment of Shanghai node is just a beginning. CNNIC will continue to select fully enforced regional connecting organizations to operate CN top level node.
